Gasoline equivalent (sometimes abbreviated as BÄ) is a unit of measure for energy . It is used to compare the energy consumption of modes of transport that use different energy sources.

A gasoline equivalent of one liter corresponds to the calorific value of one liter of gasoline and is assumed to be 32 MJ megajoules . The actual energy content of petrol varies by around 4%, depending on the type.
