The Beretta M12 is an Italian submachine gun .
history
In the 50s, the Italian company Beretta decided to bring out a new submachine gun. Compared to previous models of Beretta MPs, such as the Beretta M38 / 42 , rational metal stamping processes should now be used instead of complex milling techniques. Nevertheless, the construction should meet high demands in terms of reliability and durability. In 1961, the Italian police and military officially included the weapon in their kit. Due to the robust construction of the Beretta, many other states also adopted them. After almost 50 years of production, the model is still being manufactured, including under license outside the country.
technology
The M12 is a self-firing blowback loader. The breech is hollow and surrounds the barrel over three quarters of its length. This solution has already been used in the Czech Sa 23 as well as the Israeli Uzi and enables very compact dimensions of the MP. The center of gravity of the weapon shifts only slightly when the slide moves back and forth during the firing of the shot and during the subsequent loading cycle. This means that the submachine gun remains controllable even with longer bursts and offers a high hit density.
The lower part of the housing, including the pistol grips and magazine slot, is made from a single piece of thick stamped steel. The surface of the metal parts is not burnished , but has been phosphated and then sealed with an epoxy resin layer. In the early 1980s, the Beretta M12S was an improved variant; The two buttons for safety and fire mode were integrated in a selector switch. The separate handle lock of the original model was retained.
