The Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta ( German  weapons factory Pietro Beretta ) based in Gardone Val Trompia is one of the largest manufacturers of handguns in Italy .

The company produces handguns and long guns for private, police and military use.

history

The Beretta company was first mentioned in a document in 1526 when the gunsmith Bartolomeo Beretta from Venice received a large order for arquebus barrels for the city's arsenal . This makes Beretta the oldest arms company in the world. The company has been owned by the same family for almost half a millennium; the current manager is Ugo Gussalli Beretta, a descendant of Bartolomeo Beretta, together with his son Pietro Gussalli Beretta .

Since 2000 Sako and Tikka have been subsidiaries of the Beretta Holding . Beretta manufactures firearms for civilians (hunters and marksmen) and is the manufacturer of ordonance weapons for many authorities and armies. The group has around 3,000 employees and an annual turnover of 623 million euros (2014).

Pietro Gussalli Beretta began the restructuring of the group with the buyback of a minority stake from a Belgian partner in 1996, and since then he has been President and CEO of the parent company Beretta Holding.

Known weapons

One of Beretta's most famous weapon models is the Beretta 92FS 9 mm Parabellum , (also known as the M9). It is the official service pistol of many large armed forces, especially the US Army , which introduced it in 1985 as the M9. Successful participation in the tender for a 9 mm orderly - sidearm brought Beretta an order for more than half a million units a. Because of its notoriety, it is often used as a prop in American action films .

The manufactory also produces exclusive hunting rifles , such as the S010 or the S09 over and under shotgun, which are available with elaborate engravings at unit prices from around 60,000 euros.

knife

Various types of knives made in Japan are also available under the Beretta name and logo.
