Lists on the subject

The Beretta BM 59 is an Italian automatic fire rifle. It was derived from the American M1 Garand rifle manufactured under license in Italy after World War II .

technology

The BM 59 differs from the M1 mainly in its caliber (7.62 × 51 mm NATO instead of .30-06 Springfield ) and the detachable box magazine for 20 cartridges. Like the original Garand, it can also be loaded with a loading frame without changing the magazine . The BM 59 can shoot single and continuous fire.

A total of around 100,000 pieces were manufactured, some of which were also exported.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the BM 59 was replaced by the Beretta AR70 as an orderly weapon for the Italian military .

variants

  • BM59 Modello I : classic full shaft
  • BM59 Modello II : wooden stock with attached pistol grip

    • Ital TA ( Truppe Alpine ), mountain hunter version with folding stock and pistol grip
    • Ital TP ( Paracadutiste Troop ), paratrooper version . Like TA, but with a shortened barrel and flash hider
