Handgun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Short weapons are a category of firearms according to the definitions of the German Weapons Act (WaffG). By definition, it is all firearms that are not long weapons - that is, which as a weapon or in certain parts do not exceed certain maximum lengths.

definition

The legal definition of weapons law is:

"Long guns; These are firearms whose barrel and breech are longer than 30 cm in the closed position and whose shortest intended total length exceeds 60 cm; Handguns are all other firearms. "

- WaffG Annex 1 (to Section 1, Paragraph 4) Definitions [emphasis not in the legal text]

The definition of handguns is thus indirectly derived from the definition of long weapons (indirect legal definition).

Weapon assignment

The term “handgun” is not a term used in weapon technology and cannot be equated with the term “handgun”. In addition to handguns (primarily pistols and revolvers ), which can usually be shot with one hand and which use hot gases to accelerate the projectile (fire), handguns also include automatic weapons such as submachine guns and compressed air weapons , if they have a total length of at least 60 cm or the run length is less than 30 cm. Weapons in which muscle power can be introduced and stored using a locking device (e.g. crossbow ) are also treated as firearms and are considered short weapons in terms of dimensions.

Airsoft pistols , which are given a projectile energy of less than 0.5 Joule , are not considered firearms within the meaning of the Weapons Act; they are not covered by the weapons law. Accordingly, the weapons law definition of short weapons does not apply to them.
