history

The area was opened up with mountain railways from 1959. In 1973 the Meiringen – Hasliberg Reuti aerial cableway was built.

In November 2011, bankruptcy of the mountain railways was barely prevented. Swiss television produced a documentary about it.

Since the end of 2003 there have been considerations to connect the ski area with the ski areas of Melchsee-Frutt and / or Engelberg by means of additional cable cars . Most recently, two studies were presented in May 2020.
