Bergedorf Bille

The profit cooperative Bergedorf-Bille eG is a 1948 in Hamburg-Bergedorf by employees of the of Wilhelm Bergner operated Bergedorfer ironworks founded Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft . It was founded on Bergner's idea to build inexpensive apartments for the workforce.

With its currently around 9,200 apartments (mainly located in the east of Hamburg) and 22,000 comrades , "the Bille" , as it is called in tenant circles, is one of the largest housing associations in northern Germany. Among other things, it is also involved in a number of new construction projects in the heart of Hamburg: in HafenCity and on the site of the former Bavaria brewery in St. Pauli , it is building living space.
