Lausitzer Porter ( NRW bottle )

The mountain spring Brewery Löbau GmbH is a brewery in eastern Saxony Löbau . The best-known product is the "Lausitzer Porter ", which has been produced since 1999 and sold throughout Germany.

history

The history of Bergquell-Brauerei Löbau GmbH began in 1846 with the laying of the foundation stone for a new “Brewing, Malz and Pichhaus” on Löbauer Theaterplatz. The following years were marked by conversions, liquidations and changes of ownership. Around 1900 around 43,000 hectoliters of beer were brewed per year. Production leveled off at around this amount until the beginning of the Second World War .

The building and inventory survived the Second World War relatively unscathed. Shortly after the end of the war, the Bergquell brewery was able to resume production. In 1958 it was converted to the semi-public "Bergquell-Brauerei KG". 25 of the 177 employees were seasonal. 65,000 hectoliters of beer and 10,800 hectoliters of non-alcoholic beverages were produced.

In 1972 the semi-state brewery was transferred to " public property ". The new name was "VEB Bergquell-Brauerei Löbau". The production was 82,500 hectoliters of beer and 10,600 hectoliters of non-alcoholic beverages. The offer included a. "Kristall", "Deutsches Pilsner", "Bockbier" and " Doppelkaramel -Malzbier". From 1979 the brewery belonged to the Dresden Beverage Combine. In 1980, 107,610 hectoliters of beer were brewed.

Due to the start of renovation measures, the brewery stopped brewing in-house in October 1989 and a short time later became subordinate to the Treuhandanstalt . At that time, 140 employees were working at Bergquell. The technology lag was 50 years. In view of the accumulated debts, the Treuhandanstalt appointed two lawyers in 1991 as liquidators of the Bergquell brewery. The rebuilding began in August under the name "W & Partner Brauereigesellschaft mbH".

In 1996 the first buildings of the new brewery were built in Löbauer's industrial area West. For the first time since 1989 a separate brew was mashed . In July 1999 the "Lausitzer Porter" followed for the first time.

present

Since August 1999 the Bergquell brewery has been independent again under the new owner and managing director Steffen Dittmar. In December the first bottle filling line was put into operation at the new location. It had a capacity of 7,000 bottles per hour.

In 2003 a new warehouse and logistics hall was built. On the occasion of the opening, a weather station also went into operation, which has been providing data for the weather service ever since. The bottle filling system had to be replaced after five years of operation because the capacity was exhausted despite the four-shift system. The new system managed 15,000 bottles per hour.

Further investments followed up to 2011. A bottle sorting system and again a new bottle filling system (33,000 bottles per hour) were installed in the previous storage and logistics halls. Two new halls were built for storage and logistics, which have since made it possible to load and unload the trucks regardless of the weather. The world first “EquiTherm” was installed in the brewhouse as a pilot project, with which around 250,000 kW / h of thermal energy can be saved per year in the Bergquell brewery in Löbau. For the successful development of “EquiTherm”, the manufacturer Krones AG received the Bavarian Environment Prize 2012. The Bergquell brewery received the “Best Practice Energy Efficiency” award for the project from the German Energy Agency (dena) in 2013.

The annual output rose to around 195,000 hectoliters in 2011 and leveled off at around 180,000 hectoliters in the following years.

The "Lausitzer Porter" has been produced in the Bergquell brewery since 1999. By using sugar and additional carbon dioxide, the manufacturer renounces reference to the German purity law and describes its product as a “tasty dark brew specialty”.

Based on the “Lausitzer Porter”, the mix variants “Porter + Punsch” (2001, autumn / winter season), “Kirsch-Porter” (2006) and “Erdbeer-Porter” (2007) were created. There is also the “Strong Porter” as a strong beer variant.
