Bergstrasse wine festival in Bensheim
The Bergstrasse Winzerfest Bensheim is a folk festival in the southern Hessian town of Bensheim an der Bergstrasse . It starts every year on the Saturday before the 1st Sunday in September and lasts a total of 9 days. With over 100,000 visitors, it is one of the largest wine festivals in Germany and is also the largest wine festival in South Hesse.
Since 1929 there has been a celebration in the 3000 m² winegrowing village, the heart of the festival, and in the pedestrian zone in the historic old town of Bensheim. Rides are located at the nearby fairground , the Beaune area.
With the tasting of around 160 different wines from the sunny locations of the Hessian Bergstrasse , this otherwise rather rare wine is the focus of the festival. As every year, it achieves the highest quality levels and even made it into Lufthansa's business class .
The festival around the grape juice has long been known nationwide. Especially for the brilliant fireworks on last Saturday, people travel from far away.
procedure
The winegrowers' festival begins in the morning at 11:00 am with a guided tour of the old town, before the festival at 6:30 pm in the winegrowing village on the market square with the crowning of the Bergstrasse area wine queen with the participation of the historical vigilante group and the Biedermeier group of the local association "Oald Bensem", flag delegations of the vigilante groups and militias present is officially opened. A large parade through the city center follows on Sunday. The new week begins with a business day, followed by the Aegi market - a traditional fair since 1619 - and a festival of generations. The annual family day takes place on Thursdays, before the traditional regional wine tasting is presented by the Bergstrasse regional wine queen on Friday. The conclusion is a large brilliant fireworks display, which is fired from the Kirchberg . Experience has shown that the paths to the Kirchberghäuschen , the best vantage point, are already overcrowded hours before the start .
