History of the mine

In 1855, Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck founded the coal mine south of Zabrze on the outskirts of Dorotheendorf, which was named after him Guidogrube . On the night of October 4th to 5th, 1887, five miners were killed in an accident. In 1912 16 horses worked underground and eleven above ground in the mine . In the 1920s, the mine lost its importance. It was shut down after the Second World War . In 1967 the coal test mine M-300 ( Kopalnia Doświadczalna Węgla Kamiennego M-300 ) was established here. In this, machines from the mountain machine manufacturer KOMAG from Gliwice were tested. In 1982, the Skansen Górniczy Guido open-air museum was opened on the site of the former mine. This was closed in 1996. In 1987 the mine and its machines were entered in the list of sights of the Silesian Voivodeship. The museum reopened on June 16, 2007. At the beginning only the above-ground part and the 170-meter-deep floor were accessible. At the end of 2008, the 320 meter deep bed was also opened for tourists.
