history

As part of the four-day general meeting of the Shipbuilding Society (STG), which takes place every two years in Berlin during the Week of Prayer and Repentance , in the past a bar evening was often held on Thursday evenings with the Berlin shipbuilding students from the Technical University of Berlin (TUB) Hall ”(today Voigt-Sass-Saal), in which the older members of the STG, in addition to the students, were happy to participate. The event hall, one of the original three or four work rooms, which was cleared and festively decorated by the students, was on the third floor of the TUB's extension building.

The lattice evening was organized by students, financed by donations and was always quite successful from the student's point of view, as many valuable contacts were made with engineers from the shipyard and shipbuilding supply industries. The contacts were also very interesting for the representatives of the shipyards and the supplier industry, as the young engineers were often "visited". Often new technical topics emerged in discussions, which the students worked on in theses and brought interesting results for the shipyards or shipping companies.

This close connection with the STG came to an end when the STG shortened its general meeting and the pale evening was therefore canceled. The bar Berlin therefore decided to carry out a ship structurally and marine technically oriented presentation event, which concludes with a cozy evening, the original bar evening. Since the old tradition of the latte has been awakened again since 2006, and baptisms are taking place again, instead of the latte evening, the order festival is held in the former Sass hall. This event, organized by students and carried out as a "Berlin Symposium", has been held annually in Berlin since 2011 and has been well received by experts. The VWS building was chosen as the venue for the lectures (the research institute for hydraulic engineering and shipbuilding used to be located here) and the atrium in the TUB main building was also a popular location.
