As Bermuda or Bermuda shorts refers to a specific type of short pants that are worn as leisure or everyday clothing of all the families. The pant legs end at least an inch above the knee , or three inches for suits .

Bermudas get their name from their popularity in Bermuda , a British overseas territory , where they are part of the normal business suit for men. They consist of a material that corresponds to that of business clothing and are worn together with knee socks , shirt and tie .

The "original" bermudas end about five centimeters above the knees. In Europe and North America, this name is also used for trousers that reach below the knee, are colorful or made of jeans fabric. It is therefore difficult to make a clear distinction between Bermuda shorts and other shorts .

Bermudas have their origins in the Royal Navy , where these shorts for use in tropical areas or deserts were part of the uniform and are still used today. The land forces of Great Britain later adopted this custom. Probably this fashion was adopted by the soldiers in Bermuda by businessmen in the early 20th century.

At the Olympic Games , the athletes from Bermuda traditionally wear red Bermuda shorts when the teams march in, even at the Winter Games.
