Bernard Allen

Bernard Allen ( Irish Bernard Ó hAilín , born September 9, 1944 in Cork ) is a former Irish politician and was a member of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament , from 1981 to 2011 .

Life

Allen attended the North Monastery Christian Brothers School and studied at University College Cork (UCC). His political career began in the late 1970s. 1979 to 1995 Allen was a member of the Cork City Council . During this time he held the office of Lord Mayor of Cork from 1988 to 1989 . First elected in 1981 for the Fine Gael in the 22nd Dáil Éireann, he was able to defend his mandate in the following elections. From December 20, 1994 to June 26, 1997, Allen was Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Environment. During the 29th Dáil, from October 20, 2004 to April 29, 2007, he was Chairman of the Sub Committee on European Affairs . In the elections for the 31st Dáil Éireann in February 2011, he decided not to run again and withdrew from politics.
