Bernat Guillem II. D'Entença

Bernat Guillem II. D'Entença († in or shortly after 1296) was a Catalan nobleman in the 13th century. He was a son of Bernat Guillem I. d'Entença († 1237) and Jussiana d'Entença, from whom he inherited Alcolea .

In 1264, Bernat Guillem in Huesca, together with Fernán Sánchez de Castro, was one of the spokesmen of the Aragonese-Catalan nobility against the plans of King James I to conquer Murcia , as this only served the interests of Castile . On the court day (Cort) in Zaragoza in December of that year there had been whether this question to an open break between the Adelsfronde and the king, who so far worsened in Bernat Guillems case as it simultaneously against the king entitled to the rule Montpellier rose . On his father's side, Bernat Guillem was a direct descendant of the gentlemen's family from Montpellier, although his father was once declared illegitimate in favor of his older half-sister Maria and was thus excluded from the inheritance. The son of Maria and current owner of Montpellier was again James I of Aragon. The aristocracy and the king were reconciled on April 26, 1265 on a court day in Ejea , after the latter had to grant the nobility some legal privileges. Bernat Guillem had apparently given up his claims.

Bernat Guillem is mentioned for the last time in a document issued on August 20, 1296, in which King James II sold him the castles and villages of Xestelgar, Algar and Penna de Xestelgar. He must have died shortly afterwards. From his marriage to a woman whose name was unknown he had three sons:

  • Bernat Guillem III. d'Entença († before 1304; is mentioned in his brother's will).
  • NN († fallen in 1276 near Luxen in the fight against the revolting Moors of the Kingdom of Valencia).
  • Gombau d'Entença († before April 10, 1308), Lord of Giva, Gestalgar and Alcolea, 1307 procurator of the Kingdom of Valencia.
