Gombau d'Entença

Gombau d'Entença († 1308 ) was a Catalan nobleman and governor of the Aragon Crown in Valencia .

Gombau was a son of Bernat Guillem II. D'Entença († after 1296) from whom he inherited Alcolea and various other goods. He was married to Constança d'Antillón, with whom he had two daughters:

  • Teresa d'Entença († October 28, 1327), mistress of Alcolea and Countess of Urgell; ⚭ 1314 with the future King Alfonso IV of Aragón (1299–1336).
  • Urraca d'Entença (†?, Is mentioned in the father's will).

In addition, Gombau had three illegitimate children, all of whom he considered in his will.

Gombau was the procurator of the Kingdom of Valencia in 1307 and on December 1st of that year he had received the order from King James II of Aragón to arrest all the Templars in Valencia. On April 10, 1308, his widow had published his will that he had already written on September 12, 1304. As ordered by him, he was buried in the Church of San Juan de Alcolea.

  1. He is not identical to the Admiral of King Frederick II (III) of Sicily of the same name, who was killed on July 4, 1299 in the naval battle of Cape Orlando.
