Bernd Ickler (born June 30, 1945 in Pferdsdorf (Krauthausen) ; † November 4, 1963 in Eisenach ) was a fatality on the inner-German border .

Life

The farm mechanic Ickler, who lives in Pferdsdorf (Krauthausen), tried on the evening of November 3, 1963 to flee across the nearby border into the Federal Republic. At around 9:50 p.m. he stepped on a mine that tore off his leg. He was rescued around 10:40 p.m. and died the next morning in the Eisenach district hospital.

The public prosecutor's office in Erfurt accused former border troop pioneer officer Karl E. in December 1997 of “having killed a person without being a murderer”. E. had his pioneers create the minefield in which Bernd Ickler suffered his fatal injuries. However, there were no more legal proceedings because the accused died in 1998.
