Bernd Kater

Bernd Kater (* 1962 ) is a former German national basketball player .

career

Kater played in the youth of TuS 04 Leverkusen and also for a year (1978/79 season) at Reseda High School in the US state of California . In 1977 and 1979, the winger took part in the German cadet selection at the European Championship for this age group. At the 1979 tournament in Damascus , he was the second best thrower of the German team with an average of 18.7 points per encounter. At the European Junior Championships in 1980 he led the selection of the FRG with 17.9 points per game. In the mid-80s, he played five full international matches.

In 1981 he became German A-youth champions with Leverkusen.

In the National Basketball League  hangover played twelve years first in Leverkusen, then in Osnabrück, at Saturn Cologne and at Godesberger TV. In 1987 and 1988 he became German champions with the Cologne team. He scored a total of 2735 points in the Bundesliga.

In addition to his basketball career, Kater studied business administration and later worked in banking. He remained connected to basketball as a board member of the Basketball Aid association and as deputy chairman of the Skyliners Frankfurt eV. In addition, he was involved in the board of the Mamo Baskets Freiberg association.
