The Bernese Gugger is the oldest certified Swiss pigeon breed . It was bred in the canton of Bern in the 16th century .

Its name refers to the cuckoo's plumage , which is similar to the sparrowhawk and resembles the drawing of the pigeon. It used to cover the whole breast and today it is reduced to the collar.

The Bernese Gugger is a sleek, elegant, spirited and eager to fly pigeon with a pointed cap . Her original style of drawing is the blue tail. The white tail originated in the 20th century .
