Bernhard Burgener

Bernhard Burgener (born August 7, 1957 in Basel ) is a Swiss media entrepreneur and president of the football club FC Basel .

Life

Burgener grew up with his two sisters Manuela and Carmen Burgener in Basel. He is married, has two children and lives in Zeiningen in Aargau .

Media entrepreneur

At the age of 25 he founded Sunset Video AG and opened video stores in the greater Basel area . A year later he sold it. In 1983 he and a partner founded Rainbow Video AG for the distribution of videos. Two years later the company expanded into neighboring Austria.

In 1994, with the help of a partner, he acquired a stake in Highlight Communications and at the same time became delegate of the board of directors. Five years later he took over the chairmanship of the board of directors and led the company to the stock exchange in May of the same year. In 1999 he also took a stake in Constantin Film AG (a minority stake since 2002, later a subsidiary of Highlight Communications), where he has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board since 2014. From 2008 to 2015 he was CEO of Constantin Medien AG.

FC Basel

Since July 1, 2017, Burgener has also been President of the Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of FC Basel. His goal was to play with 6 to 8 Basel players in the team in the long term, including 4 to 6 from the youth center.
