Bernhard "Bernd" Kast (born September 8, 1948 in Augsburg ) is a German canoe athlete.

Career

Kast had been interested in canoeing whitewater from an early age. Without any special preparation he appeared with a borrowed boat in May 1967 for the qualifying competition for the Canoe World Championships. He qualified and immediately became vice world champion at the age of 19. Together with Peter Lust from Frankfurt and Lothar Zentgraf from Munich, he won the individual silver medal in the team.

From 1967 to 1973 he then won the individual gold medal at the German Canoe Championships in a row. In 1971 he was finally also world champion in individual.

On June 16, 1970, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting success .
