Bernherus of Basel

Bernherus of Basel (the first half of the 12th century) was an in Schwarzwald active stonemason and builder .

Bernherus (dt. Berner) of Basel entered the monastery of St. Blasien between 1111 and 1125 as an Oblatus , where he lived for 37 years. He worked there on the new minster, in Wittnau and especially in Berau , where he built the first monastery buildings for a community of nuns who had moved here from St. Blasien around 1110.
