The Bernische Lehrerversicherungskasse (BLVK), based in Ostermundigen, is an independent Swiss pension fund . It mainly insures teachers from kindergartens, adult education centers and cantonal schools as well as the staff of its affiliated institutions in the field of education in the canton of Bern under the 2nd pillar .

The story goes back to the Schulmeisterkasse of the Canton of Bern, which was founded in 1818 as a voluntary emergency and aid fund. The purpose of this was to alleviate the precarious social situation of the teaching staff at the time, which was often associated with poverty in old age. The private health insurance fund was not able to bring about any improvement in the course of the 19th century, despite the expansion into the invalids, widows and orphans' insurance fund. At the end of 1903 this led to the adoption of the decree on state support by the Grand Council, which in mid-1904 enabled the business to be transferred to the Bernische Lehrerversicherungskasse and the teaching staff to secure old-age and survivors' insurance.

Today the Bernische Lehrerversicherungskasse is a public corporation with its own legal personality . At the end of 2008, a total of 15,782 active insured persons and 6,132 pension recipients were affiliated. The pension capital amounted to 4.3 billion Swiss francs.

Legal bases

The legal basis is formed by the Federal Act on Occupational Old-Age, Survivors 'and Disability Pension Plans , the Federal Act on Freedom of Movement in Occupational Old-Age, Survivors' and Disability Pension Plans , the associated ordinances and the law on the Bern Teachers ' Insurance Fund '. The pension regulations of the Bernische Lehrerversicherungskasse are also part of the legal basis.

organization

The highest strategic management body of the Bernische Lehrerversicherungskasse is the administrative commission. This is composed equally of five representatives from the canton and five employee representatives and is elected for four years. The day-to-day operations are managed by the managing director.
