The Amber Palace Streckenthin ( Polish Bursztynowy pałac ) in Strzekęcino is today as a hotel -operated lock in West Pomerania , the historical Pomerania in what is now Poland .

history

Streckenthin was owned by the Cistercian convent in Köslin from 1338 . From 1789 it was owned by von Kamecke. From 1897 Kartz von Kameke-Streckenthin had the existing manor house modernized. The asymmetrical building is two-story and has different towers, bay windows , risalits and verandas, and also windows of different sizes. From 1906, Kartz von Kamecke started growing potatoes as planned , including the famous "Parnassia", which at times occupied 30% of the potato-growing area in Germany. From 1936 the successful varieties "Olympia" and "Sommerkrone" were bred here under the direction of Dobimar von Kamecke. The tradition of potato cultivation was continued in the People's Republic of Poland .

There is a French garden directly at the castle , behind it a landscape park with a small lake. Behind this is the White Palace (Biały Pałac w Strzekęcinie), built in 1935, in which Georgi Schukow resided during World War II .
