Bernwardsgroschen

The Bernwardsgroschen was a coin with the name and bust of Saint Bernward , a Hildesheim bishop (992-1022). On this Körtling the city of Hildesheim, the Holy holds its attributes cross and crosier . The legend in the period from 1494/95 was SAC BERWARDV P, the large groschen around 1520/22 had SCT BERWARD as the legend. A quarter coat of arms adorned the other side. The Bernwardsgroschen was minted around 1468 as Körtling - Low German for "Kurzling", short or small groschen - at 6 Hildesheim pfennigs.
