The Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz is a triangular space in the district of south town of Hanover , which after the Austrian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Bertha von Suttner is named. It was laid out in 1916 and was originally named Karl-Peters-Platz in honor of the founder of the German East Africa colony, Carl Peters . After several years of discussion about the honor of Carl Peters due to the war crimes he committed in the course of colonization , the decision was made on June 27, 1991 to rename it, and on February 1, 1994 the square was given its current name.

Location and traffic

The course is located in the south-east of the Südstadt. It is traversed in a north-south direction by one of the main traffic axes of the southern city, which in this section also bears the name of the square and is structurally designed as a main street . In a northerly direction this street is continued as Sallstrasse in the direction of the main station, in a southerly direction as Stresemannallee.

Development

The square consists of a green area designed as a park, which is lined with streets, which in turn are adjoined by a residential block development , which occasionally also contains business premises on the ground floor. Playgrounds built in 1970/71 are embedded in the park in both the western and eastern parts of the square. In the eastern part of the square is the Karl Peters Monument (Hanover) , which was erected in the course of the construction of the square .
