Berethelmus

Berethelmus , Berthelmus or Berethelm is mentioned as Bishop of Cologne in 762, at the time of Pippin the Younger . Apart from his name, nothing has come down to us about him. Other forms of the name are Berehthelmus, Bernhelinus, Berterinus, Bertholinus.

Life

He appears on August 13, 762 in the high-ranking list of witnesses in an important document made out in Trisgodros by Pippin and his wife Bertrada . In the diploma they affirm the rights of the Prüm Abbey , which they founded in 752 as a Carolingian house monastery, and place the monastery under their protection. According to the various bishops' catalogs for Cologne, his episcopate is assigned a length of 10 years. The day of his death is said to be February 5th.
