from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The trade association for the retail trade ( BGE ) was a commercial trade association and thus the carrier of the statutory accident insurance . On January 1, 2008, it merged with the wholesale and storage trade association to form the trade association for trade and goods distribution .

The member companies included around 300,000 retail companies. A total of around two million people were insured against accidents at work and occupational diseases with the BGE .

In addition to the head office in Bonn, the BGE had district administrations in Berlin, Bonn, Bremen and Munich.

  • The number of accidents related to the number of employees has been halved in the last 30 years.
  • The contribution rate has been around 0.8 percent of the wage bill on average for decades.
  • The administrative costs are around eight percent.

The trade association was founded on November 4, 1912 under the name “Retail Trade BG” in Berlin. Up to this point in time, many retail companies had been insured with the warehouse trade association. The center politician Jacob Astor , who headed the BG until 1934 , became the founding chairman .

In 1921 the retail trade association was given its new name. After the end of the Second World War, the employers' liability insurance association was dissolved by the Soviet occupying forces in 1945. In 1949 it was re-established in Bonn.
