The Berufsgenossenschaftliche Zentrale für Sicherheit und Gesundheit (BGZ) was a preventive institution of the Main Association of Commercial Employers' Liability Insurance Associations (HVBG) with a political focus. From 1993 to June 30, 2007, it was the successor to the Central Office for Accident Prevention (ZefU), which had existed since 1923, and was based in Sankt Augustin .

Current developments

On July 1, 2007, due to the merger of HVBG and the Federal Association of Accident Insurance Funds (BUK) to form the new umbrella association of the German Statutory Accident Insurance DGUV , the BGZ was transferred to the new prevention division. This prevention division of the new joint umbrella association of the commercial employers' liability insurance associations and the public accident insurance funds is subdivided into the prevention department (Sankt Augustin) and the "Safety and Health" prevention department (Munich and Sankt Augustin) as well

The remaining tasks of the BGZ were divided between the prevention department (SB Prevention) and the safety and health department (SiGe).
