Vocational high school (Lower Saxony)
The vocational high school allows students with already completed training and technical college the subject-specific or general university to gain.
General
Theoretically conceived as a two-year full-time school course, the BOS was constructed as an advanced school form for the technical college, that is, it commonly describes the 13th school year following the acquisition of the technical college entrance qualification through the successful attendance of the technical college . As a rule, with successful completion, the subject-related higher education entrance qualification is obtained, which, depending on the subject orientation of the BOS attended, entitles to study certain courses throughout Germany. If a second foreign language can be proven, the general higher education entrance qualification is awarded.
In practical terms, this means that if you have a technical college entrance qualification and have completed vocational training (regardless of whether in the dual system or school) in the BOS, you can take the Abitur in a single year. If the general university entrance qualification is obtained through the second foreign language, one can theoretically study any course at any university (if one meets further admission requirements).
Subjects
The vocational school is run in the fields of agriculture, social affairs, technology, economics and nutrition & home economics.
Admission requirements
Anyone who has
- the technical college entrance qualification and
- has at least two years of successfully completed relevant vocational training including the corresponding vocational school qualification (or at least five years of relevant full-time occupation).
A certain grade average does not generally have to be proven; however, individual schools can proceed differently.
degrees
As a rule, the graduate receives the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, which entitles them to study relevant courses.
If a second foreign language can be proven through
- Proof of participation in a second foreign language relevant to promotion in lower secondary level for four consecutive years or
- Participation in 320 hours of foreign language lessons (with at least "sufficient" graded) at the technical / vocational college or
- Evidence of a supplementary examination rated at least "sufficient",
the graduate receives the general higher education entrance qualification and thus access to all university courses.
Timetable
The number of hours varies depending on the subject, but you can expect 30 hours per week.
In addition to the job-related learning area (11 hours per week), the interdisciplinary learning area (19 hours per week) with the subjects math, German, English, politics and religion (and possibly natural sciences or economics) is provided.
