The Professional Association of Doctors for Microbiology, Virology and Infection Epidemiology eV (BÄMI) looks after the professional interests of its members in the field of medical microbiology , infection epidemiology , infectiology and hospital hygiene. This includes training and further education events, representing the economic interests of the members vis-à-vis authorities and organizations, and advising members. It is based in Bochum .

membership

According to the statutes, a distinction is made between ordinary and extraordinary members. Full members can become doctors for microbiology and infection epidemiology, infectiology or hospital hygiene. Other medical and natural scientists active in the field can become extraordinary members of the association.

In January 2009, the association had around 500 mostly full members.

activities

In addition to its statutory tasks, the association maintains a website, which u. a. Contains contact details of the members and the issues of the members' magazine Der Mikrobiologe . In the public area, press releases are available on current topics from microbiology, virology, infectious diseases and hygiene. In this context, the office also arranges contacts with experts. In addition, specialist events are announced, including a. the annual BÄMI conference, the focus of which is the professional training of the members of the association and other interested parties. Together with the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology , the BÄMI awards a certificate as a specialist scientist for medical microbiology and infection epidemiology .
