Beshir , also Al Bashir , is a city in Kirkuk Governorate in northern Iraq . It is considered a center of the Turkmen population . Before the IS conquest , 40% of the population were Turkmen. The place is a little over 30 km southwest of the provincial capital Kirkuk on the Qara Chay river.

In June 2014, hundreds of families fled the ISIS area. Among other things, there is reports of a massacre by IS between June 11 and 12, 2015, in which around 700 Turkmens were killed.

In mid-March 2015, it was said that IS had been expelled from the town. At the end of April 2015 it was reported that 50 IS fighters were still in the village and had set many booby traps.

At the beginning of May 2016, the Kurdish Peshmerga and Turkmen al-Hashd al-Shebī had completely brought the place and neighboring villages under control.
