The Bessho ( Japanese 別 所 氏 , Bessho-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) , which was derived from Akamatsu Enshin and ruled the province of Harima .

genealogy

  • Nagaharu (長治; 1558-1590) fought four years against Hashiba Hideyoshi , who had been commissioned by Oda Nobunaga to subdue the provinces of San'yōdō . Eventually his castle Miki (三 木 城) was captured, whereupon he and his brother Tomoyuki committed seppuku .
  • Toyohara (豊 治), a son of Nagaharu, was only 9 years old when his father died. He later received the title Bungo no Kami (豊 後 守) from Hideyoshi, plus Ayabe Castle (綾 部 城) in Tamba Province with an income of 20,000 Koku . In 1628 he was deposed because of his poor administration.
