Best Badge (MdI)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The badge for “exemplary work” was an award from the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The award was mainly made to the barracked units of the MdI, initially in two and later in three stages. In its first form, the badge shows a round, green enamelled medallion with the police star of the VP in the middle and the inscription: FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS AND FARMERS . Above it was a red enameled workers' flag on a grained ground with the golden inscription: BEST . To the left of the flag is an almost vertical branch of golden laurel. The back is smooth and shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter hook. The badge of the second form, which was awarded from around 1972, is almost identical to the badge for “exemplary work” . However, it also shows the Roman numerals I , II or III in its lower tip , level III being the highest. The back is smooth and shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter hook.
