Beta angle

Beta angle

The Beta Angle (German: Beta-Winkel ) is a size from space flight . The Beta Angle, together with the orbit altitude, determines the time during which a satellite is exposed to direct sunlight in Earth orbit . This has an effect on the energy that can be absorbed by solar cells and on the heating of the satellite by the sun.

The Beta Angle is defined as the (smaller of the two) angle between the plane of the object's orbit and the vector from the sun to the object, i.e. H. the direction from which the sun shines.
