Debt enforcement office

The debt enforcement office is a cantonal or communal authority which, under Swiss law, is responsible for carrying out debt enforcement proceedings (initiation procedures and special executive continuation procedures).

In addition, the debt enforcement office u. a. also various registers . Relevant regulations can be found under federal law, in particular in debt collection and bankruptcy law .

The debt enforcement offices - as public, independent and democratically controlled bodies - also provide information and confirmations (extracts from the register) about the debt situation of organizations or individuals (e.g. confirmations for landlords). This corresponds in Germany to the district court conducted debtors' list .

In addition to the debt enforcement office, other bodies are active in Swiss foreclosure and insolvency law, such as courts (namely probate courts ), supervisory authorities , bankruptcy offices , cantonal depository institutions, trustees , etc.

The German equivalent for debt enforcement office is the bailiff .
