Bezerra da Silva

José Bezerra da Silva (born March 9, 1927 in Recife , Pernambuco state , † January 17, 2005 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian singer-songwriter .

Da Silva is considered a protagonist and pioneer of the so-called Brazilian sambandido, a combination of samba and bandido , which can best be described as gangsta rap . In these pieces, already sung in the 1960s, he often dealt with violence and drugs. Since then he has been considered the best-known singer and representative of the typical Brazilian gangster type of Malandragem .

Works

In 1969 the first single record came out. In 1975 the first album "O Rei do Coco" was released . In the course of time he released 27 other albums, such as "Produto do Morro" , "Violência Gera Violência" (violence creates violence) and "Eu Não Sou Santo" (I am not a saint). In 1995 he parodied the Three Tenors with his samba friends Moreira da Silva and Dicró with the CD "Os Três Malandros - In Concert" .

Movie

The directors Marcia Derraik and Simplicio Neto made a documentary about him.
