Former courthouse

The District Court of Aigen was a district court in the municipality of Aigen im Mühlkreis , Rohrbach district ( Upper Austria ). The district court responsible for the judicial district of Aigen existed from 1850 to 2002. The building of the former district court at Kirchengasse 4 is a listed building.

history

On May 10, 1850, the previous princely and patrimonial courts were obliged by a decree of the kk Oberlandesgericht Linz to hand over the judicial business to the newly appointed sovereign courts. The newly created district court of Aigen was instructed to start its business on May 16, 1850, whereby it was responsible for the “judicial district of Aigen”, ie primarily for the former district court Schlägl and the northern part of the district court Marsbach . Despite its name, the official seat of the district court was only moved from Schlägl to Aigen on February 1, 1873 by an ordinance of the Imperial and Royal Justice Ministry.

At the time of its founding, the District Court of Aigen was a District Court II class. This meant that the superior district collegial court Rohrbach was responsible for offenses as a criminal court. The regional court of Linz served as an appeal and verdict court, civil, collegial and commercial court for Neufelden . The district court of Aigen was subordinate to the regional court of Linz until the dissolution, whereby the district court had to cease its activities as of December 31, 2002 as well as two other district courts of the Rohrbach district. The Rohrbach District Court has been responsible for the entire district since January 1, 2003.

Building

The building of the former district court is a Baroque building from the 17th to 18th centuries, with components from the 16th century possibly being integrated. The facade has a recent plaster band structure, inside there are baroque barrel vaults and lancet barrel vaults on all floors, some of which also have cross ridges. Baroque stucco profiles from the 18th century can also be found on a flat ceiling. The former courthouse has hook-shaped side wings with a baroque farm wing and the former prison.
