Bhichai Rattakul
Bhichai Rattakul ( Thai : พิชัย รัต ต กุล , pronunciation: [ pʰíʨʰaj ráttàkun ], RTGS : Phichai Rattakun ; born September 16, 1926 in Bangkok ) is a Thai politician.
Bhichai, who comes from a family who immigrated from China four generations ago, is married to Khunying Jaruay Rattakul ( คุณหญิง จ รวย รัต ต กุล ). They have two sons, Dr. Phichit Rattakul ( ดร. พิจิต ต รัต ต กุล ), a former governor of Bangkok, and Anatchai Rattakul ( ดร. อา ณั ฐ ชัย รัต ต กุล ).
Bhichai is a member of the Democratic Party , which he chaired from 1982 to 1991.
Bhichai Rattakul took up his first public office as a parliamentarian in Bangkok in 1969 . He later became Foreign Minister (April 21 - October 6, 1976), Deputy Prime Minister in the First and Second Cabinets of Chuan Leekpai , Speaker of the House of Representatives and Speaker of the Parliament of Thailand .
The Thai Ramkhamhaeng University in Bangkok and Kensington University in California have awarded him a doctorate in political science. In Thailand, he was Honorary Vice President of the Thai Scout Council, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Anti-Drug Commission and the Olympic Committee Award.
Bhichai has been a Rotary member since he was 31 . 2002–2003 he was its president. In this capacity he attended the first finals of the Rotary International Music Competition in 2002 and presented the prizes. His central project was PolioPlus , the vaccination of all children against polio and the ultimate victory over this disease.
