Bialbero di Casorzo (2005)

The Bialbero di Casorzo ( it . : double tree of Casorzo ) is an interesting case of epiphytic growth. It is located between Casorzo and Grana and consists of a mulberry tree on which a cherry tree of considerable size grows.

It is very rare that epiphytically growing trees can live for a long time because only limited resources of humus are available on other trees . Like the Bialbero di Casorzo, it can only survive for longer periods of time if the epiphytic tree manages to establish a root connection to the ground.

The Bialbero di Casorzo is not the only tree of this type. The July 1964 issue of Kosmos reports on a similar double tree in the Plitvice Lakes area , which consists of a willow tree (as the lower part) and a spruce (as the upper part).
