Bias (electronics)
In electronic circuit technology, bias ([ baiəs ]) is a constant, one-sided variable, such as an electrical voltage or electrical current , which is specifically superimposed on the electrical signal.
Manifestations
- To set a desired operating point of an amplifier , a bias in the form of a direct current or a direct voltage is added to the input signal.
- With some amplifier types, such as an operational amplifier , the bias is also used to compensate for the parasitic input bias currents with an offset voltage .
- In tape recorders and cassette recorders , bias describes a premagnetization of the tape material, which is achieved by superimposing a high-frequency signal (60–200 kHz) during recording.
