The path is named after the Bibbulmun or Noongar , indigenous Australians who live in the south-west of Western Australia.

The Bibbulmun Track runs from Kalamunda , east of Perth , to Albany .

The route is divided into 58 stages and leads through the towns of Dwellingup , Collie , Balingup , Pemberton , Northcliffe, Walpole and Denmark . At the end of each stage there is a shelter closed on three sides , tent facilities, water tanks and an outhouse, as well as picnic tables.

The Bibbulmun Track is maintained by the Western Australian Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) and the Bibbulmun Track Foundation. In general, the path is accessible all year round, but the best times for a hike are in the cooler seasons between April and early November. For mountain bike tours, there is a separate off-road bike path parallel to the hiking trail, the Munda Biddi Trail .
