In 2010 the biber editors received the " New Media Journalism Award 2010" from the Austrian Journalists Club. In 2011 and 2012 the magazine was voted the best free magazine by the Austrian journalist journal. 2014, the magazine was by the Chamber of Commerce awarded the "Diver City" award.

subjects

The editorial team, headed by editor-in-chief Simon Kravagna, critically addresses issues from the communities . Often topics are addressed that are only later covered by established magazines and daily newspapers. This happened in October 2013, when reports were made of the recruitment of young Austrians by radical Islamic groups (link?). Beaver was the first magazine in Austria that a Burkini -Trägerin on the cover is printed. The magazine attaches great importance to close contact with the communities. Often times, printed stories are created directly from tips and hints from the reader groups. Readers are given the opportunity to choose the cover image of the next issue themselves via social media .

education

The “beaver academy for young journalists” is unique in Austria. This facility, co-financed by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other partners, enables talented people with a migration background to receive sound training in the journalistic field. The scholarship holders receive financial support which should enable them to concentrate fully on their journalistic work.

distribution

Biber has a widespread distribution network and is the only magazine from the ethno area that has been checked by the Austrian Edition Control (ÖAK). Biber issues are distributed through distribution campaigns at subway stations , collaborations with large companies ( Ankerbrot , Billa , McDonald’s , Eurospar ) and through public health centers ( WGKK ). The magazine is also available in newspaper dispensers at selected schools and trendy spots in the city. Biber is the first Austrian monthly magazine to receive approval to set up newspaper removal bags in Vienna. Biber currently owns 2500 newspaper pockets. The magazine can also be browsed online for free on the website www.dasbiber.at.

Subscription system

The subscription system at biber differs from the payment model used by other publishers. Instead of a fixed amount, you can set the price yourself with the "pay as much as you want subscription".

Almanah

Almanah ( almanac in BKS and in other Slavic languages) is a yearbook and shows developments in the fields of politics, economy and society. The Almanah appears once a year and is a supplement to an established daily newspaper (2012, 2013: Presse ). The print run is 55,000 copies.

Size and color profile

The magazine is 207 mm × 270 mm and consists mainly of recycled paper, which has a beige color cast.

The color profile ISOnewspaper_26v4 is used for writing.
