Bibliography of Swiss history

The Bibliography of Swiss History (BSG) ( French Bibliographie de l'histoire suisse (BHS) , Italian Bibliografìa della storia svizzera (BSS) ) is a bibliography for the history of Switzerland from prehistoric times to the present. It is created by the Swiss National Library .

The bibliography lists both independent literature (books and brochures) and dependent literature (articles from domestic and foreign journals or anthologies). Publisher publications as well as gray literature are taken into account . In addition to scientific publications, popular scientific publications as well as unpublished licentiate and master's theses are evaluated. In addition to general Swiss history, the subject also includes historical auxiliary sciences, cantonal, regional and local history, church, legal, cultural, economic and social history.

The bibliography of Swiss history has existed since 1913. It was initially published by the Allgemeine Geschichtforschende Gesellschaft der Schweiz (the predecessor of the Swiss Society for History ). The Swiss National Library has been the publisher since 1958.

Frequency of publication

Today the bibliography of Swiss history is a database that is continuously updated. The bibliography was printed up to the reporting year 2007; from the reporting year 2008 it is only available as a PDF (published annually).

The database contains the bibliographical entries from the reporting year 1975 onwards. The reporting years 1913 to 1974 are digitized.
