from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Biblioteca Municipal Fábio Villaboim is the municipal library of the Brazilian city of Paraty in the state of Rio de Janeiro . It was founded in 1905.

history

The beginnings of the library in Paraty go back to the 19th century. At that time the Bibliotheca de Paraty was established. In 1997, today's city library moved into the municipality's former prison (Cadeia Pública). It is located in the historical center of the city. The building is also the seat of the Instituto Histórico e Artístico de Paraty with its archive.

It was named after Fábio Villaboim de Carvalho, who had previously made parts of his property available as the basis of a city library and after his death in 1992 these were transferred to the city's property.

It contains around 20,000 items, including around 5,000 on the history of Paraty, and has around 500 registered members who support the library.

Network system

The library is managed in the Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas under number 1117, in the Guia de Bibliotecas Públicas do Estado do Rio de Janeiro under number 91.
