The Biblioteca Nacional (in German: National Library) is a building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo .

The building, which was built in 1937 as a result of a competition for its construction, and the foundation stone was laid on the property acquired in 1926 on May 26, 1937, is located in Barrio Cordón on Avenida 18 de Julio 1790 , corner of Pje. Emilio Frugoni . Luis Crespi was responsible as the architect . The Biblioteca Nacional de Uruguay (Uruguayan National Library) founded by Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga and opened on May 26, 1816 , whose headquarters were originally located at today's Plaza Zabala , has been housed here since 1955. It was officially opened at this location in 1964. The building is architecturally to be assigned to the revolution architecture and has a floor area of ​​4000 m².

Since 1996 the building has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional .
