The Library of the Livonian Knighthood was a library in Riga that had existed since May 1853 .

history

The basis of the library was a part of the book collection of the pastor of St. Johann in Riga called Hermann Trey (d. 1849). This part was originally created by the pastor of St. Petri Liborius Bergmann (1754-1823) and was sold to Trey by his heirs.

The collection contains Livonica in the broadest sense of the word. The part relating to patriotic history, geography and legal studies in the broadest sense was housed in the Livonian Knight's House, the other books relating to Livonia were given to the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Sea Provinces for safekeeping. The library existed until 1918.

From the library rules:

"2. The knightly library is absolutely open to all members of the nobility and all scholars with the approval of the resident district councilor. "
