Jennifer Salt (born September 4, 1944 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film producer , screenwriter and actress .

biography

Salt's parents, Waldo Salt and Mary Davenport, were also in the film industry. Her father as a screenwriter and her mother as an actress. Her stepmother was the writer Eve Merriam. Salt attended New York High School of Performing Arts and was a student at Sarah Lawrence College . There she made friends with Jill Clayburgh, who also studied there, and Brian De Palma .

Jennifer Salt first became famous for her role in John Schlesinger's drama Asphalt-Cowboy (1969) as Crazy Annie. Her father wrote the script for the film. Shortly before, she had finished work on the comedy film The Wedding Party , directed by Brian De Palma. Jill Clayburgh also worked there. De Palma was the director of her first film appearance in 1968 in the mystery comedy Murder à la Mod . In De Palma's black comedy Hi Mom! , which appeared in 1970, she was again on the cast list. After Salt had completed various stage appearances, she was awarded the Theater World Award in 1971 for her play as Estelle in the play Father's Day .

She worked with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton in the 1972 literary adaptation of Do It Again, Sam . The following year she was again cast in a film by Brian De Palma, this time in the horror film The Sisters of Evil , in which her mother Mary Davenport also had a role. In 1978 she starred in an episode of the television series An American Family , followed by other work for television productions, such as Love Boat (1979), Soap - Trautes Heim (from 1977 to 1981 in 65 episodes as Eunice, snobbish daughter of Chester and Jessica Tate), Magnum (1986), Murder Is Her Hobby (1987), The Marshall Chronicles (1990) and Lifestories (1990).

The dramatic doctor series Nip / Tuck - Beauty Has Her Prize , which she co-produced from 2003 to 2010 , has received numerous prizes, including the AFI Award . For Ryan Murphy's 2010 romantic drama Eat Pray Love , in which Julia Roberts played the lead role, Salt wrote the script with Murphy.

Since 2011 she has worked as a co-producer on the US series American Horror Story . She was also involved as a screenwriter in nine episodes of the series.

Jennifer Salt was married to David Greenberg from 1976 to 1980. From this connection comes their son Jonah, who works as a talent agent.
