Beehive graves of Al Ain

The beehive graves of al-Ain are the most famous graves in the area between the cities of Bat and al-Ain in the Hajar Mountains of Oman because of their good state of preservation and their location on the edge of the Jabal Misht (Kammberg) . There are 21 individual graves on the grave site. There are numerous similar structures in the vicinity. The graves got their name from their shape reminiscent of a beehive. Based on ceramic finds, which are interpreted as grave goods , their construction is dated to the 3rd millennium BC. However, no human remains have been discovered inside.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

The tombs were added to the World Heritage List in 1988, along with the Bat Fortress and the Bronze Age settlement of al-Khutm .
