history
The Groß Salze beautification association redesigned the area from 1895 in honor of Bismarck. The occasion was Bismarck's 80th birthday in 1895. A memorial stone was erected and trees were planted. The mountain was renamed Bismarckhöhe . In February 1897, permission was given to build a lookout tower and farm building. The buildings were completed in the same year. The tower initially had a height of 9.5 meters. On June 2, 1899, the Bismarck monument, which still exists today, was inaugurated from field stones. In 1907 it was necessary to raise the tower to around 13.5 meters, as the trees that had grown previously prevented a view from the tower. Today the tower is one of the 15 remaining Bismarck towers in Saxony-Anhalt .
The Beautification Association expanded the facility, but disbanded in 1937. The entire plant fell to the city of Schönebeck.
In 1946 the mountain was named again as Bierer Berg. After the end of the Second World War , Bismarck honors no longer fit into the prevailing political orientation in the Soviet occupation zone and later GDR . However, the facilities were continued for local recreation. On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Schönebeck in 1973, the facility was renovated and the home zoo was opened. The former farm building, which was directly adjacent to the tower, served as a restaurant. The Bierer Berg Festival has been celebrated regularly since August 1989.
In 1994 the restaurant was demolished and some time later a new restaurant building was built, which took up the name Bismarckhöhe again. For the 775th anniversary in 1998, a new plaque was attached to the Bismarck memorial. The inscription reads: To the great German Prince Otto von Bismarck on April 1, 1895 and a smaller one underneath in memory of the work of the Beautification Association, the city of Schönebeck (Elbe) in the year of the 775th anniversary .
The Schönebeck operetta summer has been taking place regularly since 1997. An adventure playground was built in 2006.
