Schönebeck operetta summer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schönebeck Operetta Summer is an annual operetta festival event of the Central German Chamber Philharmonic that has been held on the open-air stage of the Bierer Berg near Schönebeck since 1997 .

history

The Schönebecker Operetta Summer was founded in 1997 by the Austrian director Thomas Enzinger and Stefanos Tsialis, the latter was music director of the Central German Chamber Philharmonic until 2004. The set designer Toto Toto contributes the settings to the open air event with his imaginative stages and elaborate costumes.

The venue on Bierer Berg was still a makeshift in the founding year, there were only simple wooden benches and a small hut on the stage.

In the first year, a total of 5 performances of Der Vetter from Dingsda were played in front of almost 1,600 spectators. In the following years, the operetta summer developed into a successful event with a steadily growing number of spectators: In 2005, over 18,000 spectators attended the production The Count of Luxembourg in a total of 22 performances .

For the 10th anniversary in 2006, Die Fledermaus was played. In addition, the Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie, under the direction of General Music Director Simonis , recorded a highlight CD with soloists Elena Schreiber, Marion Bach, Michael Zabanoff and Frank Matthias, with 13 tracks from all the works shown at the operetta festivals so far; the booklet provides information on history and actors. In addition, the current bat production was performed for children for the first time . This child-friendly version of the annual operetta production has been an integral part of the festival ever since.

In 2012 there was a repertoire for the first time , as in the opening year 1997, The Vetter from Dingsda was presented again for the 16th summer operetta .

Director Thomas Enzinger appeared in many productions as an actor, where he fully exploited his talent for the comedy of the roles. The soloist ensemble consists of singers from Germany and Austria.

Since the operetta summer was founded, the orchestra's artistic direction has changed twice . Until 2004 Stefanos Tsialis was music director of the Central German Chamber Philharmonic. Christian Simonis was General Music Director from 2005 to 2013, and Gerard Oskamp from the Netherlands took over this position in the summer of 2014.

In February 2015, Katharina Kutil, previously assistant director for the operetta summer, was introduced as the new director. In 2015, under Oskamp's artistic direction, Kutil took on the new production of Benatzky's Singspiel Im Weißen Rößl . This was already in the repertoire of the operetta summer in 1998.
